Academy of Canadian Cinema and Television (ACCT) - A national non-profit professional association designed to promote, recognize and celebrate exceptional achievements in the Canadian film and television industries.
Advanced Television Systems Committee (ATSC) - An international organization establishing voluntary technical standards for advanced television systems. ATSC Digital TV Standards include digital high definition television (HDTV), standard definition television (SDTV), data broadcasting, multichannel surround-sound audio, and satellite direct-to-home broadcasting.
Advanced Television Technology Center (ATTC) - A private, non-profit corporation organized by members of the television broadcasting and consumer products industries to test and recommend solutions for delivery and reception of a new U.S. terrestrial transmission system for digital television (DTV) service, including high definition television (HDTV).
Alliance for Community Media (ACM) - ACM, on behalf of millions of Americans nationwide, supports competition, diversity and localism in media. The ACM supports requirements that companies using public rights-of-way and public spectrum provide the means for local community use of media.
Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers (AMPTP) - The trade association responsible for negotiating virtually all the industry-wide guild and union contracts, including the American Federation of Musicians (AFM); American Federation of Television and Radio Artists (AFTRA); Directors Guild of America (DGA); International Alliance of Theatrical Stage Employees (IATSE); International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW); Laborers Local 724; Screen Actors Guild (SAG); Teamsters Local 399, and Writers Guild of America (WGA).
Audio Engineering Society (AES) - Professional society devoted exclusively to audio technology. AES encourages and disseminates new developments through annual technical meetings and exhibitions of professional equipment, and through the Journal of the Audio Engineering Society, the professional archival publication in the audio industry.
British Academy of Film and Television Arts (BAFTA) - UK's leading organization promoting and rewarding the best in film, television and interactive media. The BAFTA Television Awards recognise and reward excellence in British television.
Cabletelevision Advertising Bureau (CableNation) - An industry trade organization representing virtually all ad-supported cable networks and most ad-insertable cable systems. Provides information and resources to the advertising community to support their marketing and media planning.
Digital Video Broadcasting (DVB) - A consortium of around 300 companies in the fields of broadcasting, manufacturing, network operation and regulatory matters that have come together to establish common international standards for the move from analogue to digital broadcasting.
Digital Video Professionals Association (DVPA) - Organization of creative digital content designers, including graphic designers, motion graphic artists, editors, animators, camera people, lighting experts.
European Broadcasting Union (EBU) - The largest professional association of national broadcasters in the world. The Union has 71 active Members in 52 countries of Europe, North Africa and the Middle East, and 46 associate Members in 29 countries further afield.
European Audiovisual Observatory - The only centre of its kind to gather and circulate information on the audiovisual industry in Europe. The Observatory is a European public service body with 37 member States and the European Union, represented by the European Commission. It owes its origins to Audiovisual Eureka and operates within the legal framework of the Council of Europe. It works alongside a number of partner organisations, professional organisations from within the industry and a wide network of correspondents.
European Institute for the Media - A think tank for research and strategy concerning developments in European media and communications, based in Düsseldorf and Paris. The EIM's main areas of research are the impact of convergence on the media, cross-border developments in the media and their role in the process of European integration; the public interest aspects of (new) media developments and the growth of the Information Society.
International Federation of Television Archives (IFTA) - Organization focusing on the practical and economic implications of digitalization, upon commercial imperatives, and what this may mean for traditional film archiving activities.
Moving Picture Experts Group (MPEG) - A working group of ISO/IEC in charge of the development of standards for coded representation of digital audio and video.
National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences (NATAS) - Dedicated to the advancement of the arts and sciences of television and the promotion of creative leadership for artistic, educational and technical achievements within the television industry. It recognizes excellence in television with the Emmy Award.
National Association of Broadcasters (NAB) - NAB represents the radio and television industries in Washington before Congress, the FCC and federal agencies, the courts, and on the international front.
National Association of Latino Independent Producers (NALIP) - A national membership organization that addresses the professional needs of Latino/Latina independent producers. Promotes the advancement, development and funding of Latino/Latina film and media arts in all genres.
National Association of Telecommunications Officers and Advisors (NATOA) - A national association that represents the telecommunications needs and interests of local governments, and those who advise local governments. Membership is predominately composed of local government agencies, local government staff and public officials, as well as consultants, attorneys, and engineers who consult local governments on their telecommunciations needs.
National Association of Television Program Executives (NATPE) - Alliance of media content professionals, a nonprofit television programming and software association dedicated to the continued growth and convergence of all content across all media.
National Cable and Telecommunications Association (NCTA) - NCTA represents cable operators serving more than 90 percent of the nation's cable television households and more than 200 cable program networks, as well as equipment suppliers and providers of other services to the cable industry.
National Television System Committee (NTSC) - The work of the first NTSC (National Television System Committee) was built on the basis of earlier standardization attempts. The first NTSC laid the foundations that made monochrome television a practical reality in the United States. The standards it endorsed in 1941 are still in use today. At the dawn of color television it seemed at first that it was not going to be compatible with monochrome television and would need special receivers. A tug of war of compatible versus incompatible color television systems ensued. The compatible system won. The second NTSC set up the compatible standards that have been adopted by the U.S. and by the rest of the world in many major respects.
Radio-Television Digital News Association (RTDNA) - RTNDF provides information on what the new digital world holds for electronic journalists. RTDNA is the world's largest professional organization exclusively serving the electronic news profession, consisting of more than 3,000 news directors, news associates, educators and students.
