Hockey: A People's History -
From the simple block of wood that served as a puck at the first organized game of ice hockey, to the story of the pioneering women's professional league that sold out arenas during the Great War, to the gold-medal of the 2002 Olympic Games, Hockey: A People's History is an epic CBC production. Produced in 2006, Hockey: A People's History traces the history of the game over ten episodes. Featuring stunning re-enactments, rarely seen footage, and the words of the pioneers of the game, the series reveals a tale of hockey’s inventors, innovators and empire builders. Zamboni Photos and Facts -
The original ice resurfacing machines were little more than a push-cart fitted with a 55-gallon drum of warm water feeding a strip of felt below. Workers would first scrape the ice with shovels and finish the job with squeegees. Frank J. Zamboni changed all that with an idea to better serve his Paramount Iceland Skating Rink. With 20,000 sq ft of ice, it took Frank and his brothers over an hour to resurface the ice by hand. His product would become one of the great unsung inventions of the 20th Century.
