La Peña Cultural Center - Berkeley. The Peña tradition started in Latin America in the early sixties. The mission of the Peña was to provide good food, music and an overall aesthetic response to an institutional culture that did not provide the space for other creative forms to exist. Its programming, since its founding in 1975, is a chronicle of the cultural, social and political struggles of our times, especially the efforts of the Latin American and Latino communities in the Bay Area and in the U.S.

Plough and the Stars, The - Irish pub. Pool and darts are available for the athletically inclined, and when the fog rolls through the Avenues, you might as well be in Ballybunion of a November's eve. Supperclub - You enter supperclub san francisco through an understated door on Harrison street and are greeted by an outrageous hostess with leopard-painted eyes.
