Garden Project - The Garden Project began as a horticulture program at the San Francisco County Jail in 1982. Cathrine Sneed, then a counselor, with San Francisco Sheriff Michael Hennessey, decided to begin a program in which prisoners would work on the Jail's farm to grow organic vegetables for homeless shelters. Prisoners felt good about growing food for people in need and working with others in the garden. Unfortunately, the lessons and progress they made in the program were difficult to sustain once they left the jail. Cathrine approached Sheriff Hennessey about beginning a post-release program that would give former prisoners the support and structure they needed to remain out of jail, while earning a paycheck and still working to make a difference in poor communities and the Garden Project began in 1992.

Homeless Garden Project - Employs and trains homeless people in Santa Cruz County within a community supported organic garden enterprise.
Hunger Site, The - The Hunger Site donates free food to the hungry at no cost simply through the "click of a button." These donations, distributed by the United Nations World Food Programme, are paid for by The Hunger Site's sponsors, including Sprint, ProFlowers, Games2Learn, Miadora and iVillage.
MercyCorps - A global aid agency engaged in transitional environments that have experienced some sort of shock: natural disaster, economic collapse, or conflict. People working for it move as quickly as possible from bringing in food and supplies to enabling people to rebuild their economy with community-driven and market-led programs.
Micronutrient Initiative (MI) - Created to help harmonize global activities to achieve micronutrient-related goals. To eliminate micronutrient malnutrition, MI promotes a combination of interventions, such as: breastfeeding, modifying diet (e.g., improving food availability and increasing food consumption), food fortification, and supplementation.
San Francisco Food Bank - Collects donated food from growers, manufacturers and grocers, then distribute it to people in need through food pantries, soup kitchens, child care centers, homeless shelters, senior centers and other human service agencies with meal programs. Distributes more than 12 million pounds of food each year to hungry people in San Francisco.
