USCG Recommendations on Control of Excessive Noise (1982) [NVIC 12-82] - This Circular contains the Coast Guard's recommended guidelines to the U.S. maritime industry for addressing conditions of high noise. The guidelines were developed in consideration of the need for protecting crewmembers from noise exposures which may produce permanent noise induced hearing loss; for providing crewmembers with suitable conditions for recuperation from the effects of exposure to high noise levels; and for providing a safe working environment by giving consideration to the need for effective speech communication and for hearing audible alarms and warnings.
