California Department of Industrial Relations Medical Unit - The medical unit within the State's workers' compensation system. The Unit examines and appoints physicians to be Qualified Medical Evaluators (QMEs). QMEs perform the examinations of injured workers that help determine the level of benefits to be received by a worker.
California Division of Workers' Compensation (DWC) - DWC monitors the administration of workers' compensation claims, and provides administrative and judicial services to assist in resolving disputes that arise in connection with claims for workers' compensation benefits.
California Office of Self Insurance Plans (SIP) - Program within the Director's Office of the Department of Industrial Relations (DIR) that authorizes qualified employers to provide their own coverage for workers' compensation liabilities.
California Workers' Compensation Appeals Board (WCAB) - A seven-member, quasi-judicial body appointed by the Governor and confirmed by the Senate, exercises all judicial powers vested in it by the Labor Code. Its major functions include review of petitions for reconsideration of decisions by workers' compensation referees of the Division of Workers' Compensation and regulation of the adjudication process by adopting rules of practice and procedure.
